The Artist
Susanna Immonen · Helsinki, Finland
Susanna Immonen is a self-taught artist whose work explores beauty, femininity, sensuality, harmony and the contrasts between light and darkness.
She works with pencil, charcoal and acrylic. Some works are restrained monochrome figurative drawings; others are large, highly expressive paintings in strong colour. Working at scale allows texture and movement to become part of the work itself.
Her first exhibition, World In My Eyes, considered the contrasts between darkness and light and ways of looking at love, life and the world. It brought together black-and-white drawings of mysterious female subjects and vividly expressive colourful paintings.
The work is made in Helsinki and intended to be lived with — in homes, workspaces and public interiors.
